US Strikes 140 Iranian Targets; Tehran Retaliates in Gulf, Vows to Defend Hormuz

Tensions between the United States and Iran have sharply escalated after Washington carried out strikes on around 140 Iranian military targets within a 24-hour period. The attacks reportedly targeted air defense systems, missile infrastructure, and drone facilities, as part of efforts to secure maritime routes in the Strait of Hormuz.

The strikes came after Iran was accused of attacking a commercial vessel in the region, further intensifying an already fragile situation. US officials stated that the military action was aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation in one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes.

In response, Iran launched retaliatory missile and drone attacks on multiple Gulf countries, including Kuwait and Bahrain, where US military bases are located. Iranian forces described the strikes as a direct response to what they called “aggressive actions” by the United States.

Tehran also issued a strong warning regarding the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which a significant portion of global oil passes. Iranian authorities stated they would protect the strait under all circumstances, even as the US maintained that the route remains open for international shipping.

The renewed confrontation has raised global concerns, with fears that continued escalation could disrupt energy supplies and destabilize the broader Middle East region. Oil prices have already shown signs of volatility amid uncertainty over the security of the strait.

Despite the rising tensions, international leaders are urging restraint and calling for diplomatic efforts to prevent a wider conflict. Analysts warn that any further escalation could have serious economic and geopolitical consequences worldwide.
