Violence linked to Yemen’s Houthi movement has sharply intensified, with missile and drone attacks reported in parts of Yemen and southern Saudi Arabia. The latest escalation has raised fresh concerns about the stability of the region and the possibility of a wider conflict.
According to Yemeni military sources, Houthi attacks targeted government forces in the Marib and Hadramout provinces. Reports indicate that at least 30 government soldiers were killed, while some military sources put the death toll as high as 58. Dozens of others were reportedly injured in the strikes.
The Houthis, who control large areas of northern Yemen including the capital Sanaa, have increased their military activity amid growing regional tensions. The attacks reportedly involved a combination of drones and missiles aimed at military positions supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government.
The violence also crossed into neighboring Saudi Arabia. Saudi authorities said a Houthi attack in the southern Najran region injured 11 civilians, including a young child. Several areas were affected, with reports of fires and damage following the attacks. Saudi officials condemned the strikes and accused the Houthis of deliberately putting civilians at risk.
Saudi Arabia has long supported Yemen’s internationally recognized government in its conflict with the Houthis. Although a truce significantly reduced large-scale fighting after 2022, tensions have remained unresolved.
The latest attacks come at a particularly sensitive time, as Saudi Arabia faces wider regional security concerns involving Iran-backed groups. Officials in Riyadh have warned that further attacks could target important civilian and economic infrastructure.
The renewed violence could complicate ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and finding a political solution to Yemen’s long-running conflict. Regional governments are now closely monitoring the situation as fears grow that the latest escalation could spread beyond Yemen’s borders.
