Guwahati: Bollywood actor Salman Khan has reportedly stepped forward to support families affected by the devastating floods in Assam, with plans to help build around 500 homes for people who have lost or suffered damage to their houses.
The initiative comes as several parts of Assam continue to deal with the impact of severe flooding. Thousands of residents have been affected, with many families facing displacement, damage to homes and disruption to their daily lives.
According to reports, Khan is expected to contribute towards the construction of permanent houses for flood-affected families. The proposed assistance is aimed at providing long-term support to people whose homes have been damaged or destroyed by the floods.
Actor Randeep Hooda has also been involved in relief efforts in Assam. He has been supporting relief activities and raising awareness about the difficulties faced by communities affected by the flooding.
Meanwhile, actor Bhumi Pednekar visited flood-affected areas and participated in relief work. She reportedly distributed essential supplies among residents and interacted with people dealing with the consequences of the disaster.
The involvement of public figures has brought additional attention to the humanitarian situation in the flood-hit state. Relief agencies, local authorities and volunteers have been working to provide food, drinking water, medicines and other essential items to affected communities.
Assam regularly faces severe flooding during the monsoon season because of heavy rainfall and rising river levels. The Brahmaputra and its tributaries often overflow, affecting large areas and forcing residents to move to safer locations.
For families who have lost their homes, rebuilding is one of the biggest challenges after floodwaters recede. Assistance aimed at permanent housing could therefore provide crucial support during the recovery phase.
As relief operations continue, authorities and aid organisations are focusing on immediate necessities while also assessing the long-term rehabilitation requirements of affected communities. The participation of celebrities in relief and reconstruction efforts has further highlighted the scale of the humanitarian challenge facing Assam.
