Residents of Delhi and the surrounding NCR region woke up to intense rainfall this morning, causing widespread waterlogging and severe traffic congestion during peak hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert, warning of heavy to very heavy showers in the next 24 hours.
Key areas in Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and South Delhi reported knee-deep water, slowing traffic and affecting local transport. While Metro services remain functional, last-mile travel is being disrupted due to flooded roads.
Authorities have urged people to avoid unnecessary travel and stay alert, especially in low-lying areas. The rain is also likely to disrupt flight schedules and local train operations.
Meteorologists attribute the downpour to a strong monsoon trough over the region, fueled by moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal.
