Big Jolt to AAP in MCD: 13 Councillors Resign, Launch New Political Outfit

New Delhi: In a dramatic political development, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suffered a major setback in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) as 13 of its councillors resigned en masse today and announced the formation of a new political party.

The move is being seen as a serious internal rift within the AAP’s Delhi unit, with the defecting councillors accusing the party leadership of “centralized decision-making” and “neglecting ground-level workers.”

New Party Promises “Clean and Accountable Local Governance”

Flanked by supporters and local leaders, the group announced their new political outfit, which they claim will focus on grassroots issues, transparency, and better civic services for Delhiites. A formal name and structure of the party are expected to be revealed later this week.

“We were elected to serve the people, not to obey a high-command culture that ignores ward-level issues. Delhi deserves better,” said a senior councillor who led the exodus.

AAP Yet to Issue Official Response

While the AAP leadership has not released a formal statement yet, sources suggest that the party is in damage-control mode, trying to reach out to the rebel councillors and prevent further desertions. This shake-up could have significant implications ahead of upcoming civic and assembly elections.

The MCD currently has 250 elected councillors, and the departure of 13 members could impact committee majorities, ward planning, and internal power dynamics within the civic body.

Opposition Reacts Swiftly

Leaders from the BJP and Congress were quick to react, calling the resignation a sign of “disillusionment” within the AAP ranks. BJP spokespersons have already begun calling it a “moral defeat” for Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s leadership.
