Delhi Airport Sees 228 Flights Cancelled in 48 Hours Amid Rising India-Pak Tensions

New Delhi: As tensions between India and Pakistan remain high following Operation Sindoor, the ripple effects are now hitting air travel. Over the past two days, a total of 228 flights have been cancelled at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), leaving thousands of passengers stranded and travel plans disrupted.

Flight Disruptions Across Domestic and International Routes

Airport officials have confirmed that both domestic and international flights were impacted. Several airlines have either rerouted or suspended operations citing security concerns and airspace management restrictions.

Many inbound flights were diverted to nearby airports in Jaipur, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad, while outbound flights were grounded due to sudden changes in operational clearance.

“This is a precautionary measure in response to current airspace sensitivities and to ensure passenger safety,” an airport official said.

Passengers Left Frustrated

Long queues, confusion at boarding gates, and lack of clear communication have left passengers angry and exhausted. Many complained about not being informed in time, while others faced hours-long delays with little support.

“I came with my family for a wedding. Our flight to Dubai was cancelled without notice. There was no one to guide us on refunds or rescheduling,” said a stranded traveler.

Tensions Affecting Civil Aviation

The cancellations come as India remains on high alert following targeted military strikes across the border. Although commercial aviation has not been officially suspended, temporary airspace restrictions and high-security alerts have made scheduling unpredictable for airline operators.

Aviation experts believe more disruptions could follow if the situation escalates further. Authorities are in constant touch with the Ministry of Defence and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to evaluate the airspace status daily.

Advisory Issued

Passengers have been advised to check flight statuses in advance and stay in touch with airlines for updates. IGIA has also increased its helpdesk capacity to manage the surge in queries.
