Monsoon Likely to Reach Kerala Next Week, Progress May Remain Slow; Heatwave Alert in 10 States

India’s southwest monsoon is expected to make its onset over the southern state of Kerala in the coming week, according to recent weather assessments. However, meteorological experts indicate that the advancement of the monsoon may be slower than usual this season, potentially delaying its coverage across the rest of the country.

Typically, the monsoon begins over Kerala around early June and gradually progresses northward, covering the entire nation by mid-July. This year, forecasts suggest a relatively sluggish movement, which could impact agricultural planning and water availability in several regions.

At the same time, large parts of central and northwestern India continue to experience intense heat conditions. The India Meteorological Department has issued heatwave alerts for multiple states, including Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, along with several others.

According to officials, at least 10 states are likely to face heatwave conditions over the next seven days, with temperatures expected to remain significantly above normal levels. Authorities have advised residents to take necessary precautions, such as avoiding direct sun exposure during peak hours and staying adequately hydrated.

The delayed and slower progression of the monsoon, combined with ongoing heatwave conditions, could pose challenges for both public health and agriculture. Experts emphasize the importance of monitoring weather updates closely, as any shift in monsoon patterns can have widespread implications.

Further updates are expected as meteorological agencies continue to track the movement and intensity of the monsoon system in the coming days.
