Apple to Boost India Supply Chain with $1.5 Billion Foxconn Plant Despite Trump’s Concerns

New Delhi: Global tech giant Apple Inc. is doubling down on its India strategy, as Taiwanese manufacturer Foxconn is set to invest $1.5 billion in a new production facility, signaling a major expansion of Apple’s supply chain footprint in the country—despite disapproval from former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The proposed plant will be located in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, and is expected to generate thousands of jobs while significantly boosting India’s role in Apple’s global manufacturing operations. The facility is slated to assemble iPhones and key components, with production expected to begin in 2026.

Trump’s Pushback Ignored

Former U.S. President Trump had recently voiced strong opposition to American companies moving operations overseas, calling on Apple to “bring jobs back to the U.S.” However, Apple appears undeterred, prioritizing cost efficiency, market proximity, and geopolitical diversification.

“India has emerged as a reliable and competitive manufacturing base. This expansion reflects our long-term confidence in the Indian economy,” a Foxconn official stated.

A Boost for ‘Make in India’

The move aligns with the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, which offers production-linked incentives (PLI) to major electronics manufacturers. This latest investment marks one of the largest in India’s tech manufacturing sector, solidifying its role as a viable alternative to China.

Strategic Shift Amid Global Tensions

Apple’s shift is also being viewed through the lens of supply chain resilience, as global manufacturers increasingly look to diversify beyond China. Rising labor costs, regulatory scrutiny, and recent trade tensions have made countries like India and Vietnam attractive alternatives.

Singh News Media will continue to provide updates on this development and its impact on India’s tech manufacturing landscape.
