Setback for ISRO: 101st Satellite Mission Fails Due to Mid-Flight Rocket Anomaly

Sriharikota: In a rare setback for India’s space ambitions, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) faced a mission failure today as its 101st satellite launch ended prematurely due to a technical malfunction during the rocket’s mid-flight phase.

The mission, which lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, was expected to deploy multiple satellites into low Earth orbit. However, minutes after liftoff, the launch vehicle experienced an unexpected deviation from its intended trajectory, forcing mission control to abort the operation.

Preliminary Assessment Points to Second Stage Malfunction

Early reports from ISRO officials indicate that a problem occurred during the ignition of the second stage of the rocket. Engineers monitoring the flight noticed an abrupt change in velocity and loss of telemetry shortly after the stage separation.

“An anomaly was detected in the vehicle’s performance. Data is being analyzed, and a detailed report will follow,” said a senior ISRO spokesperson during a brief media interaction.

Mission Was to Deploy Earth Observation and Student Satellites

This mission was intended to place a primary Earth observation satellite along with several student-built nanosatellites into orbit. These were expected to support environmental monitoring, disaster management, and scientific research.

Rare Failure for India’s Space Agency

Though ISRO has a strong track record of successful launches, this incident marks one of the few failed missions in recent years. The last significant failure was recorded during the launch of EOS-03 in 2021.

Despite the setback, experts say such failures are an inherent part of space exploration, and each one contributes to improving future mission resilience.

Singh News Media will continue to track developments from ISRO and provide detailed updates on the investigation and any future re-launch plans.
