Chamoli/Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand — Continuous heavy rainfall has triggered landslides and road blockages across key pilgrimage routes in Uttarakhand. The Badrinath Highway near Nandaprayag has been completely blocked, while the route to Kedarnath is also facing major disruptions, leaving hundreds of pilgrims and locals stranded.
⚠️ Major Impact on Yatra Routes
- Debris and boulders have blocked the highway in multiple spots, including Bhandarpani, making movement toward Badrinath impossible.
- On the Kedarnath route, a massive slide near Sonprayag and Munkatiya has caused complete road closure.
- Vehicular traffic has been halted, and alternate paths are either risky or inaccessible due to ongoing rainfall.
🚧 Restoration and Rescue Efforts
Teams from local administration, disaster response forces, and the public works department are working to clear the debris and restore road access. However, poor visibility, wet soil, and recurring slides are delaying operations.
Emergency shelters and food supplies have been arranged for stranded pilgrims, especially elderly and women. Medical teams have also been deployed to affected areas.
🌧️ Rainfall Alert Issued
The state meteorological department has issued an orange alert, forecasting continued heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming 24–48 hours in Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and nearby districts.
🕉️ Yatra Temporarily Suspended
Authorities have temporarily halted the Badrinath and Kedarnath Yatras and requested devotees not to travel until further notice. Priority is being given to clear blocked routes and ensure the safety of pilgrims.
