A close aide of former U.S. President Donald Trump has criticized Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, calling it “shameful.” The advisor argued that India should stand alongside the United States rather than strengthening ties with Moscow and Beijing.
At the same time, the U.S. Treasury Secretary dismissed the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit as nothing more than a “showpiece event,” claiming that such gatherings are designed to polish Russia and China’s global image rather than deliver real outcomes.
The strong remarks highlight Washington’s growing unease over New Delhi’s balancing act between major powers. Analysts say India continues to walk a tightrope—maintaining old defense and energy ties with Russia while deepening economic and strategic relations with the U.S. and its allies.
