Strong Tremors Shake Delhi-NCR as 4.0 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes

A 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck Delhi-NCR early Monday morning at 5:36 AM, causing strong tremors across the national capital and neighboring cities like Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad. The epicenter was located near Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education in Dhaula Kuan, at a depth of five kilometers, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).

Residents React to the Earthquake

Many residents in high-rise buildings rushed outdoors as tremors shook the region. A woman from Noida Sector 20 shared her experience: “We were walking in the park and didn’t feel it initially, but it was quite strong. People came rushing out.” Reports also indicate that a loud sound was heard when the quake struck.

Government Response and Precautionary Measures

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the situation on X (formerly Twitter), urging people to stay calm and follow safety precautions, while assuring that authorities are monitoring for aftershocks. The Delhi Police also posted an emergency helpline number (Dial 112) for assistance.

Recurring Seismic Activity in the Area

The Dhaula Kuan region has a history of low-magnitude earthquakes every 2–3 years. The last recorded earthquake in this area was 3.3 magnitude in 2015.

Authorities remain on high alert, and residents are advised to stay cautious in case of aftershocks.
