Punjab: Heightened tension along the India-Pakistan border has triggered a Red Alert in Amritsar and Bathinda, as multiple incidents of drone activity, explosions, and injuries from cross-border shelling kept Punjab’s border districts awake and on edge through the night.
In a disturbing development, three members of a family in Ferozepur were injured late Monday night after suspected shell fragments landed near their home. The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital and are reportedly out of danger.
Drones in the Sky, Fear on the Ground
Security agencies confirmed multiple drone sightings over border villages in Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, and Ferozepur, triggering panic among locals. Residents reported buzzing sounds and flashes in the night sky, while security personnel fired warning shots to neutralize the suspected threats.
“It was like a warzone. Loud blasts, flashing lights, and people running for cover—it was chaos,” said a villager in Chheharta, near Amritsar.
Drone surveillance has now been intensified, and anti-drone units have been deployed across sensitive locations to prevent any possible aerial intrusion or arms drops.
Blasts and Shelling Add to Chaos
Alongside drone sightings, mysterious explosions were heard near border fences, believed to be the result of cross-border shelling or dropped ordinance. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of attempts to create confusion and panic among residents.
Security officials have launched investigation and recovery operations in multiple sectors to trace the source and nature of these incidents.
Schools Shut, Night Patrols Increased
In response to the evolving situation, schools in some border villages remained closed on Tuesday, and night patrolling has been doubled in high-risk zones. The Punjab Police, BSF, and central intelligence agencies are coordinating closely to manage public safety and counter any cross-border misadventure.
Senior officials have urged citizens to remain calm but alert, and to report any suspicious movement or objects immediately to the authorities.
