Amritsar, Punjab: Panic gripped parts of Amritsar late Monday night after loud explosions were heard across several villages, followed by the discovery of suspected missile debris scattered in agricultural fields by morning.
Residents in areas near Chandiala, Gharinda, and Khasa reported hearing multiple blasts between 11:30 PM and midnight, prompting fear and confusion. Local authorities rushed to the spots early Tuesday morning after villagers spotted burnt metallic fragments spread across fields and near residential boundaries.
What Was Found
Preliminary visuals and statements suggest that the debris belongs to a missile or aerial projectile, though an official confirmation is still awaited from the defense establishment. Villagers claimed the object came down at high speed and exploded mid-air before fragments rained down over a wide radius.
“There was a loud noise, and we thought something hit the ground. In the morning, we saw twisted metal lying in our fields,” said a resident of the border village.
Security and Forensic Teams Deployed
Immediately after the incident, security forces, bomb disposal squads, and forensic experts were deployed to cordon off the area. Investigators are now examining the fragments to determine the source—whether it was a misfire, a rogue projectile, or part of ongoing cross-border tensions.
Senior district officials confirmed that no injuries or property damage have been reported so far, and all material found has been safely recovered for analysis.
High Alert in Border Areas
The incident comes amid heightened tensions following India’s military operation under Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror bases across the border. Given Punjab’s proximity to the international boundary, the region has been on alert for any fallout or retaliation.
Police have increased night patrolling, and village heads have been advised to report any unusual activity or objects immediately.
