Mumbai: In a major development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the suspension of IPL 2025 for one week, citing “extraordinary national circumstances” and growing security concerns following India’s recent military actions under Operation Sindoor.
The decision comes after discussions with central agencies and state governments regarding the safety of players, staff, and fans amidst escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
BCCI’s Official Statement
In a late-night press release, the BCCI stated:
“In light of the current security environment and in consultation with the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Indian Premier League 2025 has been paused for seven days as a precautionary measure. The safety of players, support staff, officials, and spectators remains our top priority.”
Matches Affected
At least six matches scheduled between May 7 and May 13 will now be rescheduled. Revised dates and venues will be shared once the security situation stabilizes.
Franchise owners have expressed support for the move, with several players already advised to remain at their respective team bases until further notice. Overseas players are also being closely monitored, with travel logistics under review.
