Heavy rains lashed Delhi-NCR on Tuesday night, leading to severe waterlogging and flooding across multiple regions, with Noida among the worst affected. Several residential sectors, including parts of Sector 18, Sector 62, and Sector 121, reported submerged streets, making it difficult for commuters and residents to move around.
Situation on the Ground
Videos and images from locals showed cars stranded in knee-deep water, while residents struggled to step out of their homes. In some low-lying colonies, water reportedly entered ground-floor houses, damaging household items and disrupting daily life.
Authorities confirmed that the drainage systems in many parts of Noida and Ghaziabad were overwhelmed, leading to major traffic jams during peak hours. Emergency teams have been deployed to pump out water from critical roads and residential blocks.
Official Response
The Noida Authority and district administration have set up emergency helplines for residents. Officials have urged people to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in flood-prone zones. Police have also diverted traffic from highly waterlogged areas to ensure smoother movement.
Meanwhile, in Delhi, areas such as Minto Road, ITO, and parts of South Delhi also witnessed heavy waterlogging, sparking concerns over civic preparedness.
Impact on Daily Life
- Metro stations in certain areas saw an unusual rush as people preferred trains over waterlogged roads.
- School buses faced delays, prompting some schools to issue advisories for parents.
- Office commuters reported long detours due to road closures.
Outlook
According to weather forecasts, moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to continue for the next 48 hours, raising concerns of further flooding in low-lying areas of Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, and parts of Delhi. Authorities have appealed to residents to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines.
