Kangra, Himachal Pradesh — Torrential rains and sudden cloudbursts triggered massive flash floods across parts of Himachal Pradesh, leaving two people confirmed dead and at least 20 others feared swept away in the Kangra district. Rescue operations are underway as water levels in rivers and seasonal streams continue to rise dangerously.
The incident unfolded early Monday morning after multiple cloudbursts struck the region, causing water to gush through villages, destroying homes, livestock, and local infrastructure.
Villages Cut Off, Bridges Damaged
Several areas in Fatehpur and Indora blocks of Kangra have been cut off from road access, with bridges either washed away or left unstable. Local authorities have suspended schools in affected zones and issued advisories urging residents to move to higher ground.
“Rescue teams, including NDRF and SDRF personnel, are working round the clock to trace the missing and assist stranded families,” a district official said.
Heavy earth-moving machinery, boats, and drones have been deployed to search for survivors and assess damage in remote villages where communication lines are down.
Monsoon Fury Continues
The state meteorological department has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours. Neighboring districts like Chamba, Mandi, and Kullu are also on high alert.
Chief Minister expressed grief over the lives lost and assured full support to families of the victims, promising immediate compensation and long-term rehabilitation assistance.
