Bihar Polls: Election Commission Silent on Voter Deletions

Singh News Media | October 27, 2025

As Bihar gears up for the upcoming assembly elections, a new controversy has emerged over the removal of a significant number of names from the state’s voter list. Reports indicate that thousands of entries have been deleted under the label of “aliens” or “duplicate voters,” but the Election Commission (EC) has not issued an official statement disclosing the exact number or the verification process used.

Opposition parties have demanded transparency, questioning the criteria behind these deletions and expressing concerns that legitimate voters may have been wrongly removed. Several constituencies, particularly in border districts, are said to have witnessed a sharp dip in voter counts, fueling political tension.

Political analysts note that the term “alien voters” is being loosely used, possibly referring to unverified or mismatched identity records. Meanwhile, the EC has maintained that the cleanup is part of a routine process to ensure free and fair elections.

With the first phase of polling just days away, both ruling and opposition parties are closely monitoring the developments. The issue is likely to become a major talking point in the campaign trail, as voters seek clarity on who truly gets to cast their ballot in Bihar’s 2025 elections.
