Haridwar, A tragic incident unfolded at the Mansa Devi Temple in Haridwar on Tuesday as a sudden stampede claimed the lives of six devotees and left several others injured. The chaos reportedly erupted during a heavy rush of pilgrims visiting the temple for the ongoing Shravan month rituals.
According to officials, the stampede occurred around noon when a surge of devotees attempted to enter the temple premises simultaneously. The narrow pathway leading to the temple could not handle the overwhelming crowd, resulting in panic and a deadly stampede. Emergency services rushed to the site, and the injured were quickly transported to nearby hospitals.
Haridwar Divisional Commissioner Deepak Rawat stated, “The crowd became uncontrollable. Despite security arrangements, the volume of people at the temple was much higher than anticipated.”
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are reviewing crowd control protocols. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos, with people calling out for help and security personnel trying to regain order amid the rush.
This tragedy has cast a shadow over the religious fervor of the holy month. Officials have urged devotees to maintain discipline and follow safety guidelines during their visits to religious sites, especially during peak pilgrimage seasons.
Further updates are awaited as officials continue to assess the situation and ensure the safety of those still visiting the temple.
